Fourth Grade Play

Each year, the fourth grade writes and performs a play centered around their social studies curriculum, which is typically focused on contemporary immigration, historical immigration, civil rights, current events, and social justice. These topics are never fully predetermined – students’ curiosity and interests are also central to the curriculum. In the spring of 2018, the resulting play was called “This is Our America,” and it explored the topics of immigration, Take a Knee, DACA, The Children’s March, and The National Student Walk Out. In this photo, students are dismantling a “wall” in their performance of “This is Our America.” A student exclaims in Act III, “The Future,” “Imagine there were no borders, imagine there were no politics, no wars, no secrets, no dangers.”
