Watts Riots

EI student Robert Rosen spends four days in Los Angeles as a participant on a study of the Watts Riots, co-sponsored by New York University and the Westinghouse Broadcasting Company.

The story of Los Angeles and the Watts community is an American tragedy. It is a tragic story because Watts exists in the face of an opulent Beverly Hills, a rich and thriving Hollywood and an affluent America. It is the story of the American tragedy because it reveals the failure of our system in its entirety, the creation of misery and the inability to deal with it.
